The universe was altered, and a great force was unleashed on May 25, 1977. That was the release date of the original Star Wars film.

Among other things, it popularized the phrase, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”

But it was 44 years ago and happened right here in our own galaxy. And our world hasn’t been the same since.

Star Wars: Legion

Now let’s take a hyperdrive jump to the year 2018 and the release of a now immensely popular board game called Star Wars: Legion

It is essentially a two (or more) player game that re-enacts the Galactic Civil War with one player acting as the Rebel Alliance and the others acting as the Galactic Empire. The core set features over 33 assembled miniatures as well as several cards.

Star Wars: Legion is centered around the ground battles of the Galactic Civil War and the miniatures include troopers, repulsor vehicles, and classic Star Wars characters such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Part of the huge appeal of the game is its approach to the elements of command and control that help to create the chaos and uncertainty of battle. The dozens of unpainted miniatures allow for assembly and painting so players can build a Star Wars army to battle either the dreaded Galactic Empire or the valiant Rebel Alliance.

And, as if the Star Wars: Legion Core Set weren’t enough, there are several expansion packs.

The core set provides the basis of the game’s rules and operations of play, but the various unit expansions provide additional squads of essential troops to fill out your ranks. In addition, there are different commanders who can leverage their unique and powerful abilities to turn the tide of battle.

The expansions available include:

  • Galactic Empire Expansions
  • Galactic Republic Expansions
  • Rebel Alliance Expansions
  • Separatist Alliance Expansions
  • Neutral Expansions
