Rockets have always thrilled and fascinated children of all ages – and adults!

According to an article on the BuildingGuides blog,

“As early as 1919, there has been an interest in rockets. Robert Goddard was among the first to conduct experiments with small-scale model rockets and published a paper detailing the design and use of a meteorological rocket to explore the upper atmosphere. After World War II, and the use of the V-2 rocket to bomb England, model rockets began to gain popularity. Early model rockets were designed based on rockets used during the war.”

In 1958, Estes Fireworks became Estes Industries and began offering model rocket kits and model rocket engines.

Today, at Fundemonium, we carry a wide variety of solid-fuel rocket kits from Estes, along with all the accessories required to launch them. These kits allow kids to develop motor skills in addition to the ability to follow instructions. In addition, they can learn the basic dynamics of rocketry and electricity fundamentals.

Not to mention they’re just plain fun to launch!

5 Fun Flying Rockets for Kids

ultra stomp

For younger kids not quite ready for kits and rocket engines, they can still experience the thrill of a rocket launching with the Ultra Stomp Rocket set. All they have to do is “Run, Jump, STOMP” and they can launch these air-powered rockets up to 200 feet in the air.

100% kid-operated, these air-powered rockets do not require batteries and are super easy and fast to assemble.

The set includes 4 Ultra Stomp Rockets, Launch Stand, and LaunchPad with Air Hose. These safe, foam-tipped rockets can fly up to 20 stories into the air!

Fun for solo play or taking turns with 2 to 3 kids ages 6 and up.

JR STOMP rocket

No one wants to be left out of the fun! These Junior Stomp Rockets provide active, outdoor fun for toddlers and younger kids day or night.

And, just like the older version, this air-powered rocket kit is 100% kid-operated, requires no batteries, and is super easy and fast to assemble. And these rockets glow in the dark!

The Junior Stomp Rocket set Includes 4 Jr. Glow Stomp Rockets, Launch Stand, air a LaunchPad with Air Hose. These safe, foam-tipped and glow-in-the-dark rockets fly up to 100 feet in the air – as high as a 10 story building!

The Jr Stomp Rockets are fun for playing alone or taking turns with 2 or 3 children. Best for ages 3 and up.

Older kids will love the thrill of sleek rockets shooting into the air and floating back to earth with recovery parachutes. And part of the appeal of this set is that there is nothing to build on these two rockets. They come out of the box ready to fly. Simply attach the recovery parachutes and they’re ready for the flying field!

The kit comes with TWO rockets, not just one! And no painting, gluing, or building of the Rascal and Hijinks rockets means more time for rocket flying FUN!

The “on board” launch system includes an Estes Porta-Pad II Launch Pad and Electron Beam Launch Controller.

WHAT YOU NEED TO LAUNCH (sold separately):

  • Estes model rocket engines
  • Starters
  • Recovery wadding

FLASH model rocket

The FLASH is a quick build rocket that reaches heights of over 925 feet! And because no paint or glue is necessary that means being to the launch area quicker and more time for fun!

At 16 inches tall, the FLASH lets your child experience the thrill of building and flying their own high-performance model rocket without the need for gluing or waiting. That’s because the FLASH rocket kit simply “snaps” together in minutes with the uniquely molded fin set.

The pre-colored body tube attaches easily, and the die-cut decals are a “snap” to apply. Ease of assembly is just one of the great features of this set along with the sleek, low-drag design that provides high-performance flights over 925 feet using Estes standard model rocket engines.

The FLASH launch system includes an Estes Porta-Pad II Launch Pad and Electron Beam Launch Controller.

Items you’ll need for building include scissors, fine sandpaper, and masking tape.

WHAT YOU NEED TO LAUNCH (sold separately):

  • Estes model rocket engines
  • Starters

Saturn ARF

The Saturn V is America’s most historic rocket.

As the tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket ever produced, the original Saturn V was a 3-stage rocket that stood 363 feet high, weighed about 6.2 million pounds, and generated 7.6 million pounds of thrust at liftoff.

At just over 36 stories tall, it was 60 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty and made quite an impressive sight on the launch pad.

The Estes limited production and commemorative 1:200 scale Apollo II Saturn V model is almost 2 feet tall and comes fully assembled with many scale details and markings carefully reproduced for exceptional realism.

This historical model of the Saturn V is suitable for display with the display stand that is included, or it can also be launched! The package includes a colorful, pre-assembled 18” recovery parachute.

WHAT YOU NEED TO LAUNCH (sold separately):

  • Launch stand
  • Estes model rocket engines
  • Starters
  • Recovery wadding
  • Launch controller and four 1.5V AA alkaline batteries
